Douglas Phillips has practiced zen and vipassana for over 30 years. His
primary teachers have been Maureen Stuart, Roshi, Zen Master George Bowman (with
whom he took Jukai) James Ford, Sensei and Larry Rosenberg. Doug began
his work in Vipassana with Larry in 1990, received permission to teach in 1995
and Dharma Transmission in 2003. He is also a licensed clinical psychologist
and maintains a private psychotherapy practice in Newton, Massachusetts.
Doug’s
teaching is deeply rooted in the Vipassana and Zen traditions and focuses on
the development of the Anapanasati (Full Awareness with Breathing) method and
choiceless awareness with emphasis on the practice of relationships in daily
living as a way of self-knowing. His teaching draws inspiration from the fundamental
teachings of the Buddha, the Thai Forest Tradition, the work of J. Krishnamurti,
Vimala Thakar and the Zen koan traditions. **** John
Bigay leads our ongoing practice group in Concord, MA. John is a long
time student of Doug's and has studied and practiced zen and vipassana
meditation for more than 15 years. John's practice is
particularly focused on the application of these teachings to everyday
living.
